I’ll Go Again

I went on my first big walk today,
I was determined to have a go,
We started off at Denshaw,
Then back to Stockport don’t you know!
Twenty five miles, they told us in all,
“It’s easy “Duncan said,
“Down through our beautiful countryside, I’ll just go on ahead”
I was alone when I met them at Stockport
But gained friends along the way,
Such a lovely, happy crowd they were,
It made a wonderful day.
Mick and I urged our knees “keep going”
Young, old, kids and dogs spurred each other on,
Pete changed his shoes, a lady broke her arm,
And cramp took its toll on someone.
Still I made it back to Tiviot Dale,
Mind, those steps were naughty you know!
And I didn’t do as bad as I thought,
I’ll maybe have another go.
Now I mustn’t forget to mention
All the helpers each stopping place,
And the wardens did a smashing job,
Cause the countryside is ace!
